The first part of the project was the preparatory search and brainstorming for my project. I first outlined the criteria I needed to fit into, then I did an initial search, then I selected by top options. I listed the pros and cons of my selection and then proceeded with with top pick.
In illustrator I opened the image I copied from google search. I selected image trace-three colors. The I expanded the image and drew apart the three shapes. I colored those shapes to clarify which part of the project would be which color, then it was off to the printer.
I took my flash drive with the file above on it and followed the directions to print the vinyl out. I load each color and cut out each section individually until I have three pieces of vinyl to stick together
The first thing I was suppose to do was weed out the vinyl I wasn't going to use....I didn't do that. I was confused and I ended up weeding it as I was transferring in onto the transfer tape. Cool beans. I also didn't transfer all the pieces onto one piece of transfer tape on top of each other because the yellow and the green don't overlap so I transferred them both on separately onto the blue background. The I cut out the boarder into a tear shape (I liked it better than the rectangle in the logo). The all I had to o was put it on my object.
In this rotation I learned how to load and use the laser cutter. Using a machine for the first time can be tricky and confusing, but My project turned out pretty well. I also learned more about illustrator and how to pull pieces of an image apart. I learned about weeding vinyl and why it's important for the overall construction. This was my first time doing a research page for this class so it was great figuring that out and learn what to put in there. I learned a lot in this project, from the research to the digital tools to the machines.
